Mezcal Old Fashioned

by Muddle Muddle | 60 Second Cocktails

Also known as: Oaxacan Old Fashioned, Old Fashioned

In partnership with: Mezcal Mal Bien Featuring: Ryan Silva

Locko

Like the Moscow Mule, the classic Old Fashioned is a type of cocktail that can be made with an array of base spirits. In fact, the Old Fashioned represents what the earliest definition of a “cocktail” is: a spirit mixed with water, bitters, and sugar. Choosing mezcal over the traditionally-used whiskey and making a little twist in the bitters department leads to a new favorite of mine.

Ingredients

  • Mezcal Mal Bien
  • Agave Nectar
  • Mole Bitters
  • Ice
  • Grapefruit

Equipment

  • Spoon
  • Cocktail Stirring Glass
  • Cocktail Strainer
  • Peeler

Glassware

  • Rocks Glass

Steps

  1. Add 2oz Mezcal Mal Bien to mixing glass
  2. Add 1/4 to 1/2oz of agave syrup
  3. Add several dashes of mole bitters
  4. Add ice to cocktail glass and stir
  5. Strain into a rocks glass over ice
  6. Garnish with grapefruit peel (be sure to extract some of the oils first by squeezing the peel over it)
  7. You've just made the Mezcal Old Fashioned. Enjoy!
